New Delhi, India – Signify (Euronext: LIGHT) Innovations India Limited has partnered with People-to-People Health Foundation (PPHF) to enhance the personal safety of frontline COVID-19 warriors in Punjab using UV-C Lighting. Under this initiative, the company is installing 50 UV-C Disinfection Chambers across 25 hospitals in the state of Punjab.
Hon’ble Shri. Balbir Singh Sidhu, Health and Family Welfare and Labour Minister, Punjab Government commenced the initiative today in Punjab and said, “We managed to control COVID in Punjab quite effectively. COVID warriors are at the forefront of our fight against COVID-19 and their persistent hard work during these difficult times is highly laudable. We cannot thank them enough for what they have done for the entire nation in the past few months and continue to strive with the same zest. In this regard, I commend the work done by Signify India and People to People Health Foundation, whose joint initiative has helped to provide 50 UV-C chambers for Punjab state. These UV-C chambers will be installed in government hospitals throughout the state. The UV-C chambers will provide much needed protection to frontline workers from COVID and other infectious diseases during COVID and even in post-COVID times by helping them disinfect their personal belongings, which do not otherwise get routinely disinfected”.
These chambers use UV-C technology to disinfect the surfaces of high touch objects such as visitor tags, phones, bags, laptops, wallets, and glasses etc. in a matter of minutes depending on the size of the object. The technology used in these chambers has been tested and proven effective at National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories (NEILD) at Boston University and the laboratory of Department of Materials Engineering at Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to inactivate the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19.
Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Sumit Joshi, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Signify Innovations India said, “At Signify, we believe in supporting initiatives that help us give back to the society. These are trying times for all of us and we are more than happy to step forward and help those in need. The UV-C technology has proven to be very effective against the SARS-CoV-2 virus and we aim to help the society with our innovations in this sector. The coronavirus continues to impact society and this initiative will help these few people stay safe and sanitized, especially the most vulnerable.”
Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Laxmikant Palo, Chief Executive officer, People-to-People Health Foundation said, “We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Shri. Balbir Singh Sidhu and the Government of Punjab for supporting this cause and to Signify India for providing the state-of-the-art technology that will keep our frontline warriors safe and healthy.”
The drive is a part of Signify’s larger effort to enhance the personal safety of frontline workers like doctors and policemen, and other vulnerable sections of the society such as elderly people in old age homes, by equipping them with efficient UV-C based sanitization systems. This concerted effort by Signify will support over 350 hospitals, 90 police stations and 30 old age homes across 18 cities in the country, positively impacting over one lakh people. By safeguarding them, the company aims to ensure that these frontline workers can continue to do their noble and critical work, for which the country is grateful to them.
UV-C light should always be used in accordance with the safety requirements and instructions to avoid humans and animals from being exposed to it since it can damage their skin and eyes.
